Module-init-tools wishlist

This is a placeholder for a wish list. I'll pull in the TODO items into here in due course. Meanwhile, add things you'd like to see in whichever tool on this page.

  • modprobe - possibility for udev integration would be useful according to Scott. - specifically to avoid the repeated parsing of the configuration files and modules.alias list every single time modprobe is invoked.
    • Is this still useful with the binary files? --Md 13:49, 31 March 2009 (BST)
  • Do not generate the modules.*map files by default (or remove all support?), nobody is supposed to be using hotplug anymore. (--Md 09:58, 2 September 2006 (BST))
    • There is an option in depmod.conf to disable these now, but it still defaults to on except on Debian. -- Alan 11:12, 30 March 2009 (BST)
